Montauk

Home to the largest commercial fishing fleet in New York, Montauk’s active harbor and marinas attract many visitors every year.

Welcome to Montauk

Located at the most eastern tip of the South Fork of Long Island, Montauk has long been a destination for those enjoying water sports such as fishing, boating, water skiing, and surfing. Approximately 110 miles from New York City, and easily accessible by luxury bus liner, train, boat, ferry, car, or private plane, Montauk offers daily excursions in season for whale watching, deep-sea fishing, and cruise trips to Block Island.

As the first lighthouse in New York State, the famed Montauk Lighthouse has been a beacon for boaters and fishermen alike for generations. Home to the largest commercial fishing fleet in New York, Montauk’s active harbor and marinas attract many visitors every year. Montauk also publishes its own newspaper, the Montauk Sun, which features local stories, local businesses, and local events.

Offering a wide variety of homes for sale and for rent from luxury oceanfront homes to classic summer cottages, Montauk also offers a wide array of fine restaurants specializing in perfectly fresh local seafood - such as the iconic Gosman’s Restaurant, East Northeast, Duryea’s Seafood, the Harvest Restaurant, Inlet Seafood, Dave’s Grill, the Surf Lodge, the Surfside restaurant, Shagwong Bar & Grill, the Crow’s Nest, Navy Beach, Ruschmeyer’s restaurant, and, of course, the venerable Gurney’s Inn which houses both a legendary restaurant, bar, inn and full-day spa.

For those looking for something more casual, the vibrant village green area offers John’s Drive-In, Wok n’ Roll, The Plaza, and Village Pizza amongst others, as well as mini-golf, a seasonal movie theatre, and the Montauk Playhouse, and other distractions.

The sandy ocean beaches invite surfing, swimming, and sunbathing. Golfers can enjoy Montauk Downs Golf Course, equestrians can enjoy horseback riding at some of the area’s horse farms, and nature enthusiasts can avail themselves of the many Hither Hill hiking trails.

For those who also enjoy off-season activities, Montauk’s Chamber of Commerce sponsors an annual Fall Festival and the well-attended annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
